Hi guys,

I'm thinking about doing an externship over at Loma Linda around April or May. Is there anything I need to know about the program or the externship? Can anyone that has done an externship there share their experiences? Any residents with any words of wisdom when it comes to applying/externing at Loma Linda?

thanks

you'll get solid experience in loma linda...the residents are nice, given you are not an idiot...you'll be busy when traveling at three different hospitals...loma linda, riverside, and arrowhead...i think face call is still every third week, shared with plastics and ent...(but still on call for trauma everyday)....overall, good variety of scope, not much probably in head and neck cancer (if you are into that)...but lots of orthognathics with stringer, crazy surgeries with herford (he isn't afraid to do anything...as long it benefits the patient, of course)...the clinic does plenty of sedations and implants...actually a good set-up...resident meetings are every wednesday night...case presentations are on mondays during lunch...

keep yourself busy and work hard...they like that, but that goes for any program....any other questions about it just pm me...good luck...you'll have fun...later

I would also suggest calling ahead and making sure you hit a trauma week - they are pretty busy normally but those weeks are great in terms of maximizing your extern experience. Oh yeah - take call. Because they take home call (the residents usually live midway in-between the 3 hospitals) a lot of externs miss out on what's going on at night and over the weekends.

thanks a lot guys. sounds like I could learn and gain a lot from loma linda.

Has anyone done an externship here recently? What was your experience? What did you get to see and do? I heard from a classmate that they like for externs to put together a presentation...?

Feel free to post or PM me...
