Hey guys, I am currently a 2nd year at Tufts Dental and am ultimately looking to pursue a career in Pedo or Ortho. There was an exam that was introduced to us that all the Oral surgeons have to take (OMS exam) to get into a specialty. I think its full name is NBME Comprehensive Basic Sciences Examination (CBSE). Now they are saying that all the specialties might be looking into this exam and may require it for admission into their program. Does anyone know any details on this exam and if it is an absolute must to take it for Pedo or Ortho?

Thank you!

From what I have heard, OMS is the only specialty that requires it right now. But of course, that is subject to change. From what I understand, only the AAOMS has approved the recommendation to use the CBSE to allow a subjective comparison of applicants and only the AAOMS is offering the test to interested OMS applicants. It is only offered once a year (Here is the AAOMS link for the test: http://www.aaoms.org/nbme.php)

Here is the link for the CBSE

From what I understand, the CBSE is an exam medical student take to project how they will perform on Step 1. It is supposed to be very similar to step 1, so if you study Step 1 material, that should cover what you need to know, or at least I hope so.

If anyone has any different information, I would love to hear it.
