You don't have to be tops, but you can't be average either. Most students are towards the top of their class (say top 20% at least) and have great Part I scores (90+).
Since your a mod, I'd like to ask you what scores on the NBDE 1 are considered competitive for ...
Periodontics: Passing![]()
i dont see the connection...lol..
but hobbie is most likely right on...
What connection..why I asked the mod? They've been on this sdn for a while and most of the time, they arent D1 like myself and they may know more just any1 who posts on SDN. How is school going fightingspirit? I ended up not going to UB since I got in to my state school. It kind of suck getting accepted so late in the process but thats the price one pays for applying late I guess.
i know you ended up at your state school and that must be a relief cus you're close to your family.
as far as my experience at school, well i have mixed feelings towards it. i am madly in love with the school i go to. i worship my faculty members out of admiration and respect. i get so much care and attention from every faculty member that it becomes embarassing not to do well. everything is perfect at the school i attend. in the flip side though, i had absolutly no idea that there would be such a large number of bionic super overachiever students that would compete like crazy!!! again, i have mixed feelings towards this because great students bring out the best of me; the sad part is when the best of me is not enough to be one of them....lol...it's all good though...i am generally happy and satisfied here. above all the stress, life is great.
but simply passing my classes or not getting A's is taking a toll on my pride. Its shattering my pride. I'm not used to not bieng among the very top in my class. As for the students bieng cut throught, same here. We have A-F grading to make matters worse. Aparently, many schools are or have recently switched to P/F and students are more helpful that way. Nice talking to u after a long time.
I was the same way when I first started Dental School. The thing that I had to realize is that 1) We are in dental school now. In undergrad, you would have 300-500 people in your class and most of them are not smart enough to get into dental school. Most of the people in dental schools were in the top 20% of their classes. So now you are among the best of the best, and that makes you and everyone else in dental school "average." 2) Because everyone around you is just as smart as you are, dental school becomes more about effort then just being smarter. For the most part, those who put in more effort will get better grades. It is not necessarily that they are smarter, they are just trying harder.
I have found that when I put in an A effort, I get A's. The only thing is, in my situation (I just want to be a GP), I would rather spend a hour or two a night with my wife and family and get B's then see them a couple times a week and get A's.
