Shreveport, LA — Willis Knighton Health is proud to announce the launch of its new accredited residency program in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, marking an important milestone in advancing specialized healthcare education and patient care. This rigorous program, approved by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), aims to prepare the next generation of skilled surgeons to meet the growing demand for expertise in oral and maxillofacial surgery.
The establishment of this residency program underscores Willis Knighton’s commitment to excellence in education and patient care. We are excited to equip residents with the knowledge, skills, and compassion required to excel in the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
The 4-year residency program combines comprehensive clinical training, research opportunities, and academic excellence. Residents will gain hands-on experience in areas such as facial trauma, orthognathic surgery, temporomandibular joint surgery, facial cosmetic surgery, sleep apnea surgery, craniofacial reconstructive surgery, dental implantology, cleft surgery, and management of benign and malignant pathology, under the guidance of world-class faculty and practicing surgeons.

· Accreditation: Initial accreditation by CODA.
· Cutting-Edge Facilities: Access to state-of-the-art outpatient and inpatient surgical facilities, blocked operating room time with dedicated surgical staff, extensive access to relevant clinical literature, and wide range of academic facilities.
· Interdisciplinary Training: Collaboration with departments such as general surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, internal medicine, critical care, emergency medicine, pediatric medicine and oncology.
· Research Opportunities: Support for residents to engage in groundbreaking clinical research and present at national and international conferences.
· Patient-Centered Care: Training in providing comprehensive care to diverse patient populations.

Application Information:
Residency Length: 4 years
Categorical Position: 2 residents per year
Non-categorical Position: 4 residents per year
Inaugural class of residency started in 2024 and is expected to graduate in 2028.
Currently, we have begun accepting applications for 4 non-categorical positions for one-year preliminary training starting July 1, 2025. Application for 2 categorical positions starting July 1, 2026, will be accepted through formal application via National Matching Service, 2025-2026 application cycle, and selection through the Postdoctoral Dental Matching Program.
Eligible candidates must be in good standing and currently enrolled in the final year of a CODA-accredited dental school or have successfully obtained a DDS or DMD from a CODA-accredited dental school and demonstrate a commitment to advancing the field of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
