Looking for ideas on call forwarding for after hours. I need an efficient way to handle any after hours call from patients done at an ASC, where the patient has an anesthesia related question. I’d like an automated solution with a single number that will automatically forward the call to the “on call” anesthesiologist.
Anyone aware of any solutions for this?

Is it a common thing that patients call you after discharge from the ASC? Why don't they call their surgeon?

Sounds terrible. They should ask questions before they are discharged. If they later have questions they can call their surgeon, call the ASC during business hours, or go to the ER if it is a serious medical concern.

Well, I think going to the ER is reportable for the ASC. Current system is to call the in call surgeon. Again, interested in establishing a single phone number that auto forwards to the anesthesiologist responsible that day.

I hope you get paid handsomely for this terrible idea.
To answer, have the group establish a phone line. Have the on call person actively forward to their own number. I know Verizon and AT&T can forward easily. You can have your office staff do it daily, if not, just have to suck it up and do it yourself. Or have ASC staff do it.

Maybe not the solution you’re looking for, unless you have a huge group or lots people going to ASC I think this is the simplest way to do it. Or obviously have a dedicated pager/phone for ASC on call and pass it to each other daily.

PS. I just looked, there are telecom companies who may smooth this out, obviously for a fee, on line. If you don’t want to do this yourself. Send them an on-call schedule monthly, maybe? I can’t resist to say again, it sounds terrible. We as residents use to cover some of our attendings pain patients at night. What a crock pot of s**t idea that was.

Thanks for those ideas. I’ll check them out. Not expecting too many anesthesia related calls if we do this. The patients will only have the ortho on call number. They would only forward anything anesthesia related to us after first talking to the patient. I was just looking for an easy solution for one number to call. Thanks.

If you agree that you will be available to answer all anesthesia questions I have a feeling that most questions will become anesthesia related.
But maybe your orthopods are different ... who knows?

Not super tech savvy, but would a free google voice number work? They'll just give you a # for your region and you can go online and forward that # to whomever. Never tried this, so your mileage may vary, but it looks like it would do what you're asking.
