i just found out that I'm on hold post interview at buffalo, anyone else get that, and anyone know exactly what it means?

It's their waitlist, what else would it mean? I got the same thing which came as a shock.

I got the same letter way back in november. Zweihander, how quick is pretty quick and how do you know this piece of information?

They're gonna update their hold lists sometime in March; I can't remember exactly what it's called then, maybe the alternate list or something. If you can't now, you should be able to call them next month or so and ask them which third of the list you're on. There are usually around 200 people on the final hold list (if they've put more on "hold" during the year, they will cut down). The final list gets processed quickly, as in they can be two thirds of the way down by June, and sometimes everyone on that list gets accepted. Of course, it depends on how many people drop their acceptances, so it'll change from year to year, but historically if you're on that list you're in good shape.

Good luck to you all!

P.S. - I know 'cause I did this last year. 😉

Thanks for the info... This is really encouraging 🙂

bump...anyone get anymore info about this recently?

I can only speak for myself and one other person on the waitlist. We both called a few weeks ago and we're both on the bottom of the top third. If you call, ask to speak with Mr. Rosso. He told me to give him a call back in April because that's when things heat up on the list.

I pretty much got the same gist from Mr. Rosso - bottom of top third, call back in april...but overall, he said that waitlist is generally a good sign. Do any of you live in buffalo or know much about the city? I understand that it's a pretty nice school, but I'm just wondering how buffalo is to live in - it's way up there for me! (and don't bother mentioning the snow)

I've lived in Buffalo for the past two years working at the University and unless I get some fantastic financial aid packages from a few other schools, it's looking like I will be attending med school here in the the fall. As far as living here, it's not that bad...but I wouldn't say it's the best place in the world. The whole snow thing is overblown. Just counting New York State, we're 5th in annual snowfall for major cities, so I don't know where the rumors of the "snowiest city" came from. The restaurants are probably the best feature of Buffalo. There are tons of wonderful places to eat in all different price ranges. The night life is also a big plus....bars are open until 4 a.m. and Chippewa Street is a famous strip of bars. The summer has many great festivals like Thursday in the Square (Free concerts by famous bands every Thurs), Taste of Buffalo (largest food festival on East Coast), etc. There are multiple malls (the largest, The Galleria, has a few hundred stores) and shopping is tolerable. The downfalls of the city are that it is so spread out due to the massive migration to the 'burbs in the past 20 years. Be prepared to drive to find certain stores, restaurants, or clubs. Even the University is split into two sections that are 10 min apart. But overall, I'd say it's not a bad place to live if you can tolerate the cold.
