I have been in the "deferred decision" category at UMD since November. Has anybody who has been put in this category at Maryland heard anything or had their status change yet?

I am trying to decide whether I should plan on going to one of the other schools that I have been accepted to, or if I should hold out for Maryland. This is very frustrating.

What other school are you considering? Does deferred decision mean that you've already interviewed? In the past, Maryland has gone down pretty low on it's wait-list. You might want to call the adcom (even though I know that they are unfriendly people) and just ask where you stand on their list.

I've been accepted to VCU and Drexel. I am waiting on UMD, GW, and Tufts. I have either been placed in the delayed decision or waitlist at these schools.
I am trying to attend school with my boyfriend who has been accepted to PhD programs at Hopkins and UPenn. He has to decide where to go by next week, therefore I have to choose either to go with Drexel or to take a risk and hold out for Maryland.

I have heard that last year, UMD only took 10 people from the waitlist. I am not optimistic. I'll probably call them today, but I doubt that they will give me any helpful info.

Has anybody heard anything from UMD post delayed decision?

I am also on post-interview hold at Maryland. From searching the threads from last year it seemed like they dont tell you anything until June! Arg! Well let us know if they tell you anything helpful when you call and if they are even friendly or not.

So I just called and spoke to a woman at UMD. She was actually pretty friendly. She said that they would probably review the students that are on hold by April 26th and at that time they will tell you if you have been waitlisted, rejected, or accepted. They'll tell you by mail, ofcourse.

I was actually surprised to hear that they would be reviewing the applications so soon, however I wouldn't bet any money on hearing from them that week. They seem very disorganized. Argh!

Unfortunately, this doesn't really help my situation since I need to make a decision next week!!

Mimi,
That sucks. What school does your bf like better? I know it would be terrible to be apart, but Philly isn't THAT far from Bmore. I know it would be a pain but that's always an option. I'm sure you've thought about it.
I have a friend who drives from Yale every weekend to visit her man in Philly (he's at Penn).
It can be done.
Plus, there is the awesome place in Philly where you can get vegan cheessteaks so that's always an incentive!

If you can convince me to make up my freakin mind about UMass or UMaryland, I'd gladly give you my spot if I choose UMass!

My boyfriend favors Hopkins, but he is willing to go to Penn if it means that we will be together. I've also been waitlisted at GW, so doing the DC-Baltimore thing wouldn't be bad at all. I just don't know if I should take the chance of not getting into UMD or GW. My boyfriend and I have been living together for about 2 years now and definitely have future plans together. This is so tough and I don't know what to do. It is really eating me up inside.

I am going to email the dean of admissions at UMD and tell him about my situation. I know that it may not do any good, but it can't hurt. I wish I could wait until June to decide all this!!!🙁 🙁 🙁

i just called maryland today, and the secretary told me "late may, early june" for decisions for those on the hold list. They are going to handle the "waitlist" after that. Jeez, I interviewed there so long ago!! UMD is my top choice, so I am anxious...please post if anyone hears anything about decisions from the hold-list...
