just trying to find out what is the general consensus on being on hold. Is this the same to being on the waiting list?

I went to UCI for an interview and they placed me onhold two days ago. Any guess of what this could mean?

regards

Hi, I'm not sure if it means the same thing at UC schools, but I'm on hold at UF. At UF it means that you're not on the waitlist, they haven't even formed it yet, but they are going to interview more people before they decide to put you on a waitlist or accept you later. They bring up your file everytime they interview a new group and review your application again. They said we'd hear back by Janaury or February as to our status, waitlisted, accepted, or rejected! I hope this helps! 🙂

On hold is like being on an early wait list. At UCSF (I don't know if the other UCs are the same) they put a bunch of people on hold after the interview, and after they are done with all the interviews and the few initial acceptances, they offer spots to some of the one hold people, put some of them on a official tiered waitlist, and reject the rest. Happened last year sometime in late April/early May.
