So I met with this bureaucrat recently. He spent half the meeting talking about himself, and how back when he was at college, he double majored in physics/math, took an insane number of hours each semester (while acing all his courses...), and took senior level courses freshman year. He spent the second half talking about how he regrets everything (hence why he's a bureaucrat now), and wishes he'd just played golf (seriously, golf) and taken lib arts courses instead. For this reason, he stated he's preventing other students from going down his path - from taking too many courses, to taking courses out of order, to favoring depth over breath. He wishes someone had stopped him from taking a heavy course load, even though he aced all his courses, since he didn't have time to play golf due to all the coursework. He wants me to spend time on golf (seriously, golf) and random humanity courses instead of taking advanced courses since he wishes he'd done that when he was in college.

Anyone else encountered hypocritical bureaucrats? Some of these bureaucrats are downright surreal...

Please do not give any unsolicited advice in this thread. And before anyone asks: I ******** hate golf.

Bureaucrats love telling people the story of their life. Let them, and the odds of getting what you want increase exponentially. At least, in theory.

Don't know what to tell you, man - if you hate dealing with administration so much now, you're on the wrong career path. These problems don't go away in med school, residency, or real life afterwards. Also, find a synonym for bureaucrat, reading it in every other sentence from you is what's getting surreal.
