Hey everyone,

So I been working hard the past year and half. I graduated from UCLA with a really low science GPA (2.5) and retaking all my pre reqs, I need 2 more classes, but thus far I received almost A's in all of them (~3.8 GPA). Was recently published in 2 papers and been working for research for gene therapy for SCID babies. I received a 514 on my MCAT. I don't plan on applying to medical school directly, because of my crippling undergrad GPA, so I am hoping to get into an SMP and apply after completing that. I did take 3 graduate courses via UCLA extension as well to beef up my application. Plan on taking 1 more. At this point I am really proud of myself to make it this far but I do understand there is a lot more work to do. I keep doubting myself but am I taking the right approaches to gain admission into medical school? Any tips or suggestions on what I should do next?

So your cgpa is 3.8 and sgpa 2.5?

undergad sgpa is 2.5

the 3.8 is just pre-reqs (~about 15 classes) I repeated via ucla extension, so its my cumulative/science GPA in a sense after undergrad, but I don't think its considered a post bacc?

What is the total GPA for if and additional classes combined ?

But if you take every class you've ever taken in your life, UCLA extension or otherwise, the GPA would be 3.8 right? Sorry that Im a little confused. Your sgpa would include the pre reqs since they're science courses. Just trying to get a simple clear cgpa and sgpa.

Do I use a regular GPA calculator to combine them? the 3.8 is just ucla extension, so it does not include my science GPA from UCLA undergrad. I assumed it would of been kept separate because of a different institution.

Ill try to figure that out and sorry about that confusion.

AAMC (MD schools) will combine all the grade points you've earned anywhere and divide by the number of credits you've earned anywhere to get your total GPA.
The DO schools will replace the grade of any course you retook. The bad grades go away and you have a remediated list of courses. The GPA is determined for that list.
