So I have also heard some varying opinions but I wanted to ask specifically for psych since I Know they have much heavier interview days than almost any other speciality interview day-so I figure they may way interviews slightly more than others-either way-once you get interviews are you pretty much all on level playing fields with the other candidates or is this just not true-I used to hear that in med school that once u landed an interview you were all on levle playing fields and had equal chances.

I mean I am by far not a super applicant so when I get a good interview I just never know if it is something most schools do-I mean are interviews given out really easily? or do they divy out only so many? Bottom line is should an interview make you excited that you have a chance or is it something most poeple get and wil only count slightly toward getting you in?

To be honest, I get the impression that psych programs care about pedigree just as much as everyone else, so that the fellow from the top medical school will get a bounce from that and may be ranked higher than someone who interviewed better. PD's like their program to look good on paper and their residents are often advertised to outsiders along with the name of their alma mater.

That said, who cares? Once you have an interview, you have a foot in the door. Just try to relax and present yourself as favorably-- and genuinely-- as possible. The rest is outside of your control.
