I hate to even write this but I am frustrated with this application process. As a first time applicant and college senior, I am grateful that I will be beginning medical school this year. However, I can't help but be annoyed that even though I have good stats and I got my appliations in early, I only have only had one interview and one acceptance. I have been "complete" at 15 schools since September and I have recieved 4 rejections, but I keep wondering about the others. I keep calling and get the same "your file is still under review BS". I can imagine that others are in the same position and I am just wondering what your thougts are...

I totally agree... I have had 2 interviews so far and one acceptance, but have yet to hear from many schools.(2 of which are my state schools). Its frustrating I know...but look on the bright side at least you are accepted.

yea, it is really frustrating not to hear anything from schools..it makes you wonder how many applications they have and how slow theyre going. you just have to be patient, i guess. and yea, at least you got an acceptance. but we share your frustration.. 🙂

Heh congrats on your acceptance. 😛 At least you're not stuck in waitlist hell like me. 3 interviews, 2 waitlists and still waiting on a decision from that last one, not to mention all the other schools where my "file is still under review". 🙁

3 interviews, no acceptances, and not getting anymore news from any schools.........yeah man this sucks, esp since i have a high mcat and sorta high gpa, that really counted for a lot 🙄 and i know thats not the only thing they look at, and i have extra currics and i spent time on every part of my app..........ugh!!!! 🙄 😡 😡

You make other people envy your position. Don't whine. You're in you're in. U can become a radiologist coming from Bob Jones Medical school or Harvard Medical School.

I know that a lot of people are still deciding where they want to go - a lot of people hold acceptances - I think there is a "second tier" of applicants - the kids that get called once the schools know who's planning on attending and who is not from their "first tier" applicants. I'm in the same situation as highheeled - one acceptance, three interviews - and waiting...

I'm with you invicta.... we are in the same exact situation in terms of waitlists/interviews. but remember - LOTS of people get taken off waitlists... i'll be thinking some good thoughts for everyone

Be happy you got in on your first round. I was waitlisted my first year applying at a couple of schools and had to apply again. There are many more people that apply than there are places in medical schools. You should be happy you are going not complaining that you only got in at such-a-such school and it was the ONLY one....

errrr, i haven't even gotten interviewed yet. 🙁
i'd be happy just getting an interview.

im beginning to think that not hearing back from a lot of schools by now is as good as a rejection. i got some late interviews before christmas and they were scheduling for feb and march. someone said nyu, a school im waiting on, was done interviewing, and yet ive not recieved word on it (rejection in the mail?). seeing as the 6 schools im waiting on are all high tier schools that have been interviewing for months and months, if no word comes back by end of this month im just going to assume that theyve shot me down and not bothered to send notice of my rejection

There's a lot of this sort of talk on the boards and I was starting to buy into it until about 10 minutes ago when I got an interview invite from Temple for the end of January. I think that unless there is specific, first-hand experience or information to say otherwise, we should just take schools at their word and believe that they really are still reviewing our applications. I had been complete with Temple since October. I'm also not going to buy that we're just interviewing for waitlist spots unless the Dean of Admissions him/herself tells me there's no shot of getting in outright. Even then I'll convince them to open up a new spot just for me! All the best, hope is still alive!

-dope-

I think that the medschools are just rolling in our money laughing at us 😀 I am scared to apply cause I know that once I use all this money thats it! I got a bright idea  lets get signs and sit at corners and say we need money to apply to med school? Hey a lot of the bums do it for alcohol (there signs say so) why can't we 🙂 jk of course!

At this point, I'll take an acceptance at any instituition.... even Puerto Rico.

5 Interviews completed ( + 3 rejections) and not a peep from the schools (though in all fairness several of the schools are Texas Schools 😳 ) )

Anyway, congrats to all who've received acceptance, and even those who are waitlisted (which is still better than flat-out rejections!)

Hey highheeled - I know how you feel. I've been accepted at a couple of places, but I spent a lot of time and money applying to 27 schools. I have competitive stats and expected to hear from some of the better schools on my list.

I know some of you who are still waiting for interview invites or acceptances get pissed when you hear people like us complaining about our position, but don't make us feel guilty about it. We're not trying to make you feel bad, we're just frustrated ourselves. If you can't empathize, then start another thread where you can whine with people in the same boat as you.

On a brighter note, I think we're in for a second wave of interviews. Now that we're past the holiday slumber and the first review, I'm sure the pace will start picking up again. I've heard from a couple more schools (better ones) this week. Hang in there, we're back in the game 🙂

It'll be a lot better for you if can figure out a way to just be happy with your one acceptance, and hope for more. If you don't get accepted to the school of your dreams, or even one in your top 5 or so, you don't want to head the med school that did accept you with the attitude that you deserved better. I'm sure people will pick up on it. And, believe me, I would have been in the same boat last year...if I had only been accepted to the last school on my list, I would have been disappointed like you. But the fact that I didn't get accepted anywhere really helped me to see how ridiculous that attitude was.

You're going to med school next year, congratulations and best of luck.
