Hello,

I just found that I have a DFR on my transcript for an honors college activity. It's not a class but to be part of the honors college I have to do an activity every semester. I did an activity, but was not able to submit an activity completion form on time due to technical reasons in the school system. Thus, I got a DFR on the transcript. I however sent the transcript to AMCAS already. Will this DFR have any impact on my application?

What does DFR mean? Defer?

If it is one activity and doesn't even have a grade attached to it, I don't think it will affect your application at all.

You're allowed up to 10 errors before AMCAS returns your application to you for resubmission.

From my college:
DFR—grade temporarily deferred. Deferred grades may be used for thesis courses, continuing seminar, sequential courses, and certain courses that require extensive independent work beyond the term. At the end of the continuing course sequence the deferred grade for all terms must be converted either to a specific letter grade (A-F), to an I (Incomplete), or to an S or U. No credit is earned until the DFR grade is converted to a permanent grade. (Note: Previous to Fall 2004 the grade of DFR was designated as DF.)
The thing is that it's not a grade. It is just satisfactory vs unsatisfactory. I have neither because the completion form was late.

Also, the class has not credits attached to it. It is just for the sake of keeping track of being part of the honors college.

It doesn't matter. As long as you don't have 9 other mistakes in your course entries, it doesn't matter.

Just curious, why would this count as an error? He hasn't submitted the AMCAS yet, and could change the grade for this course to DFR no? Then everything would be accurate.

What do you mean by mistakes? I have not turned in my application but the transcript that I sent to AMCAS had the DFR. Will DFR be looked at negatively by medical schools?

Yeah I misread the OP. As long as what he puts in AMCAS agrees with what is on his transcripts, there won't be an error. The defer won't negatively affect the application, most likely no one will even notice.

Nope. I doubt anyone would even notice. I rarely look at the course list, much less with such a detailed eye that I would pick up on one "deferred" grade, or however it would show up.

Also, for curiosity. Am I able to update my transcript at a later date without delaying the application processing?

Medical students read and screen files at your school? .. Or, are you referring to the files that are provided to interviewers?

That's interesting. Thanks; I was just curious!

Depends on how major of an update it would be. If you're taking summer courses that would increase your GPA, then you should probably send the updated transcript.
Well, I am not taking any summer courses. I was talking just about having a transcript with DFR removed as I turn in my completion form.

I don't think it's worth the trouble then.
Cool, thanks for the help. That might be the only "off" thing about my transcript. I was worried that a DFR would look really bad even though it is a 0 credit activity.
