I have descent stats (21TS, 20AA, 20PAT; 3.7sGPA, 3.8oGPA), 4 solid LOR's, undergrad research, ~500 hrs community service, and 100+ hours shadowing dentist, and July 6 submit date, yet I only have 1 interview Jan 27 @ Case. Does anyone else share my frustration? Or do I just need to relax and be patient?

If your stats are merely 'decent', then my are crap.
Not much else to do but wait, try not to stress about the situation. It is only the first week of Oct, maybe you'll start hearing some positive feedback soon.👍

Which schools did you apply to?
I'm right there with you... Every day I wake up thinking "Ok today is going to be the day I hear some good news".... and every day ends the same... no news... I am getting really impatient and starting to lose a lot of hope... I guess we just have to wait and see what happens

Thanks for the responses, misery loves company and I feel a little better now. Well said, every day does end the same: disappointment. This waiting in the dark is for the birds. I applied to UCSF, UCLA, UoP, UPitt, UPenn, U of Michigan, Case, UNJMD, BU, and Tufts. Our luck is going to change soon

To be quite honest I think getting into dental school is 70% hardwork and 30% luck. Which panel reviews what part of your app...if something is missing or not...tiny things are making me go a little crazy. Anyways, I guess we just need to sit tight..and hold on..

O..I have 2 interviews...applied to 4 schools total...so I guess wasnt being too smart statistically speaking...my stats are ok..ogpa 3.77, sci 3.67, AA 20

Early for some schools, late for others. Tufts hasn't given out any yet--theres still hope, I hope!
it looks like your stats are stronger than mine, but i've recieved 4 interviews (ASDOH, Midwester, LLU, UNLV). however, i applied to 20 schools. i got a rejection from Case already as well.
I just visited ASDOH's open house and the dean said ASDOH requires a minimum of 600 community service hours. I have 600+ community service hours (he said he prefers non dental community serivce hours to show you're a more well rounded student)
LLU is pretty heavy on religion, so you need a solid letter from a spiritual leader. (i'm the youth group leader at my church, so i got a pretty good letter from my head pastor)

Also, i'm sure you'll do great at ur case interview. prepare like crazy and see if your undergrad school has any kind of practice interview career center, i went to mine and it helped a lot. good luck man

Hey Im not trying to be the killer of hope cause there is still plenty to be had, but I just got a text from a gal friend of mine with a 22AA who was invited to Tufts today!
Did they send their entire first round interviews today?
perhaps weak (and rushed/poor quality) LOR's? I think this is the most overlooked aspect of a dental application - more schools are starting to check these to choose people they think will fit their school philosophy/mission...Heck! I would be curious to read/hear what other people are saying about you before I let you set foot in my place...

Don't lose hope, guys. My mentor only had 2 interviews and she got into BOTH of them. Another guy I know got 5 interviews but didn't get in. The number of interviews doesnt mean you will/will not get in. Just do your best in the one you have now. You only need to get in ONE school to be a dentist, right? 😀

I'm joining this club. I'm starting to get a little frustrated that I haven't heard a peep from any of the other schools I applied to. I am extremely grateful to have at lest one interview though. It's a week from today and I feel like I have even more pressure riding on me now because so far it's my only pre-December interview and I think there is a really good chance that it may be my only one. So I really feel I need to shine if I want a chance at being part of the class of 2015
me too... It's a relief to know that I'm not the only one. I didn't check sdn for a while because I was scared to know how many people would have gotten invites from the schools I want to go... Ahh.. I'm like given up almost and thinking about next cycle. But there is still hope left for us, right.... Do people get in getting interview invites post december? I was third batch, so earlier applicant.. 🙁

I'm with ya!!! I had only one at NYU with a 3.6 overall gpa and a 3.5 science gpa and a 20 on my DAT....and i got deferred and continuing reviewed at two schools
What is going on? I have a bad feeling that there simply aren't enough seats to accommodate all the qualified applicants. Some of us may be left out in the cold even though we are solid candidates for d-school.

Do you have strong LOR's? Vast amount of shadowing and volunteering experiences? Leadership or tutoring/teaching experiences? Because there's obviously something wrong with schools deferring a 3.6 GPA/20 DAT...Did you ever call up a school to ask why they deferred you?

My stats aren't as stellar as yours I've been invited to an interview at half the schools I applied to! Oh wait... that's one interview as well... I'm in the same club. But hey, if it goes well one is all you really need!
well our stats are basically identical except i prolly have half the community service time and i completed my aadsas in mid-june...but i dont even qualify for this club 🙁. I guess that's what i get for only applying and wanting to go to one school.

Question, why does everyone care so much about December 1st?
Do your chances drastically go down if you get an interview after Dec 1st?
People who interview before Dec 1 get a decision on that date (or slightly later if it's by snail mail). A lot of people still get in after Dec 1, so it's not the end of the world, but you are getting first crack at filling the class. After that, your opportunities are limited based on how many (or how few) are accepting offers of admission. I think that some schools are only interviewing for waitlist spots at some point post-Dec, as well.

i knew that the first day that any school could extend an invitation to any student is Dec 1st, but I didn't know that if you interview pre-dec you would get a decision (acceptance or rejection) around Dec 1st...or is it just you're more likely to get a decision Dec 1st?

I have completed one interview and have one coming up. Both of the are from instate school. I haven't heard a peep from OOS AADSAS schools 🙁
