Since I was on call last weekend, today was my 12th straight day of work.

At 830 I got paged that one of my most notorious frequent fliers had overdosed and was on our medicine floor.

At 1130 I picked up a voice mail from one of my most notorious outpatients that he had overdosed 2 days ago and had just woken up and wished he hadn't.

At 230 one of my admins informed me that yet another notorious frequent flier had been found dead in his group home bed last night.

Think I should buy some lottery tickets?
Go to the track and bet on a trifecta?

I do hope that that new Bond flick is good.

I got a patient who can't be transferred off the unit because there's no other female forensic beds that can take her.

She's trapped on a one to one on my unit because she has made unwanted sexual advances to a patient who can't physically defend herself. So if she went to another unit the 1 to 1 wouldn't be needed.

The patient is very upset with the 1 to 1. She determined to get off the unit. She's told the treatment team that she'll attack me at some point thinking that will finally get her off my unit. She's already spat at me a few times and she has more than one variety of Hepatitis.

Just another day.

Worst previous day I can think of---I discharged a frequent flyer & known malinger out of the crisis center. He died 3 days later. I freaked out, blaming myself for his "suicide". Turned out the mini-bus that ran him over had faulty brakes, went through a red light and it was not an intended suicide. All good in the end but for about a week I didn't sleep well at night.

If you're referring to Quantum of Solace, I heard mixed reviews. Casino Royale was very good.

Springtime in psychiatry land is bad for two reasons:

1. Mania and mixed states worsen.

2. Patients know that residents are leaving soon, and act out / decompensate. (I know you're an attending of course - just sayin')

I remember my last couple of months of residency last year. My patients who were stable most or all year decompensated and made my life hell for those last few weeks.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. Hang in there.

I would block out a week and head to those fjords you mention under your avatar...or go to the beach for a week.

No where near the same genre, but my wife & I were watching "W" last night (only the first half hour) & so far its hilarious, and one I think you'd like OPD.

I didn't like Casino Royale. I just couldn't get over the in car defibrillation scene. Plus 2/3 of the movie occurred during the same card game. And, although he is totally hot, the new Bond is too much of a tortured brooding soul. He doesn't have any fun. I'm partial to Pierce Brosnan...I met him at a diner in NYC just after a today show appearance when he was full-out James Bond in the tux and all. He had a more playful, dashing, fun James Bond attitude.

Anyways. Sorry you are having bad days. I'm starting residency in June. I'm sure I have my share of those ahead of me.😱😱😱

PS-I will check out QOS though, like I said he is hot.

Are you saying I shouldn't waste my time--pull out some old DVDs instead?
All the good stuff is in the trailer?

Don't watch it after a bad day... or a good day. Watch it after a neutral day if you must.
