This is a TBR question. No other information or further explanation of the images is given.

Which of the following valves is a one-way valve that allows flow from left to right?

Eh, after reading the explanation again I think I get it. Good question considering how ambiguous the drawings are.

Is that the real figure? Nice quality. The answer's A; B will occlude if flow is L-->R. I'm assuming the dashed line allows fluid flow but stops the ball.
 
I thought this was pretty obvious. I assumed the dotted line was a porous mesh. If your liquid pushes through the pipe from left to right, The ball in A will move against the mesh but allow liquid to pass through, while in B the ball moves up against the opening and stops the flow.

If the fluid flows to the left the Ball in A pushes up against the opening and closes the tube off, whereas in B it hits the mesh and allows fluid to flow through.

So A is the only one that makes sense as a one way valve allowing liquid to only travel to the right.

It's a drawing I made in paint, but the actual figure in the book looks pretty much the same (this is one of the last passages in TBR Gen Chem-Thermodynamics), not even kidding.

Yea the answer is A. It's simple if you realize that the dotted line is something that blocks the ball from occluding one valve when water flows one way but not the other way; I didn't get that initially.
