I am going to apply for pharmD this year and I will finish all my pre-reqs by the end of this year. If I didn't get accepted this time, I will have to wait and apply for the 2009 circle. That means I am going to have a whole year have no school but just work (I am a pharmacy tech). Will they look at this blank of school and question about it , or it will not affect their decision at all?

I dont think it really matters that much but if you dont have a degree they might ask why you did not continue.

If you dont get in maybe there are some classes you could re-take.

I agree, that will be a valid question they might ask if you don't have a bachelors degree.

One year break is pretty long. Unless you do some interesting stuff like working with red cross, studying abroad, or maybe something simple like doing a one year research project and get some recognition. These are just options other than going back to school full time again that might look better than having one whole year of just working as pharm tech.

Expect to answer the question what you did in that year to make you a better applicant the second time.

I don't see this as a problem at all. Assuming you'll continue to work, there could be any number of reasons for you to take a year off. Look at the AACP website and check out the range of ages for new applicants/admissions: obviously, some of those folks have been out of school a LONG time. ;-)

Seriously- there could be financial reasons, maybe you just wanted to take a break (I don't see that as a negative), perhaps you had some personal or family issues that needed resolution..... in my opinion, it doesn't matter.

Having said that, I agree that this might be a good time to take some 'filler' courses, maybe re-take a class you didn't feel comfortable with, or take something that may not be a pre-req but will still enhance your application. Heck, you could take a tai-chi course and find a way to make it enance your application....... "In an effort to look at healing as an art as well as a science, I explored alternative medicine and olistic approaches to healing the soul as well as the body..."

Really, if you need to work full-time to pay the rent, make the car note, cover some other expenses, that's not a bad thing.

Thanks a lot, guys!🙂 You all gave me some great ideas. Get a bachelors degree sounds like a good one. I have noticed there are more and more applicants had a degree when they applied.
