Hey folks.

Would appreciate any advice/info on how to go about securing a one year Peds-Prelim position.
I'm planning on pursuing a residency in Medical Genetics, which currently requires a prelim year in a any primary specialty (IM, Peds, OB, Surg). While an IM prelim year is looking more & more unavoidable, would really rather do a Peds-Prelim! I have researched & contacted PD's pretty liberally, but have only had a few bites. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks folks.

Where are you getting information that you only need to do 1 year of prelim in IM/Peds in order to do medical genetics? ABMGG requirements are pretty clear that you need 2 years... http://www.abmgg.org/2015/cert_requirements.html

The link you posted is referring to the requirements to sit for the ABMGG Certification Exam in 2015. But those folks had different residency entrance requirements. The GME requirement before entrance into the residency has been scaled back to one year. As of July 2014, the requirement to qualify for an appointment to enter into a Medical Genetics residency are:

Prior to appointment in the program, residents must have successfully completed at least one year of a residency program accredited by the ACGME, or a program located in Canada and accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, including at least 12 months of direct patient care experience. Hi @Rxford3world, I realize it's been a year since you last logged into SDN so this is a bit of a long shot, but I'm curious if you ever found a peds prelim spot or decided to go in another direction? Without seeing your thread I'd started a similar one, and the general consensus seemed to be "don't do it".
