Hey Guys so this summer im taking Chem 1! Today I checked who were my professor on Rate My Professor and ouch did he have a bad rating. One user even states his own daugher didnt take his class. There is another option but it is online. Ive checked and she has a food rating but i have never had a online class, how is it? Is okay if I take the chem class online?

I cant afford at all any Bs

Few pointers:
-Trust me, all professors on all pre-req science courses have bad rating at ratemyprofessor (but trust me, they turn out cool)
-I think there might be a policy where a family member might not be able to take the course. Like, for the sake of academic integrity.

Just take it at in-class if you are a full time student.

Agreed. I never really found ratemyprofessor to be that accurate, especially for pre-req classes. I would take it in person... and if your professor turns out to be bad, just read the text and learn to self study. It will help you down the road ;P
There are always a ton of help options for intro classes like gen chem (tutoring, student help center, khan academy, TAs, office hours). You'll be fine.

I disagree that ratemyprofessor isn't helpful. That combined with reputation among students is how I didn't get slaughtered in my pre-reqs.

I still wouldn't take chem online. Better not to. You'll make it.

Honestlt yes. For my intro to genetics I was nervous because I had a bad rating professor but it turned out awesome. I really enjoyed the class

Yup, thats what I was telling my friend, that if its bad then its up to us!

Yup, im going to take it the traditional class.

I can't see how someone is willingly going to do online chemistry. I hate sapling with a passion

No. Prerequisites (at least science and math ones) have to be done in person. Very few schools will allow otherwise. DONT DO IT!

I tutored chemistry at my university for 3 semesters. I saw students from each of the professors in the chem dept (we had 7), and each time the student claimed the professor was "terrible". I've had all 7 of these professors, and only 1 had questionable methods.

Long story short: Take student opinions with a grain of salt.

(I personally love chemistry!)

I have had a bad professor and she was rated as such on named site. (she was rated 2.3, she served a 1.) She said quite a few things that made me question if she should be teaching or if she should be seeing a therapist.... Honestly one of the worst I have had (Top one takes the cake at calling out students in class and telling them that their score was too low and they should drop the class... 😵). I take the rating with consideration. If there are a few bad ratings, then I will just brush them off. If everyone is singing the same tune of how bad the teacher is, then I will give second thought to going them. At my college I don't have a choice who I am going with as I have to sign up and then the teachers are placed in the class.... :eyebrow:
