I'm thinking about taking an english online class for the summer due to work, but need to know if taking an online class would look bad on my transcripts when applying to dental school?? any comments are greatly appreciated, thanks

i think a few online courses shouldnt hurt your app. if you get a good grade from a distance ed course, then that shows that you are motivated and can work independently.

Are you sure they will even show up as online? At my university, online courses look exactly the same as regular ones on my transcript.

You have to specify on aadsas whether its distance learning. So either way it doesn't matter. And no it doesnt look bad.

Online classes are legitimate learning classes.

I see no reason why online classes would look bad.

I've taken a couple due to work obligations and tight schedules.

They haven't all been a walk in the park because I have/had cumulative finals that were proctored and worth 40-60% of my grade.

as long as they appear as regular class on my transcript i dont see the reason why not. l

My online class only count 1.0hour instead of 3.0 hour after Aadsas convert it 🙁

Thanks everyone for your help... I appreciate it!!

Man, what kind of class was that? Can you think of any reason as to why they'd do that? I have an intro to lit class coming that'll be online, so now you've really gotten my attention. :/

Could it be this:

"Remember that "quarter hours" and "unit hours" are converted to semester hours for AADSAS computation. Some applicants have earned credits at two or more colleges/universities that have different academic terms. To compute GPA's, AADSAS converts all credit hours earned to semester hours."

That's what I'm assuming. Why would they change my 8 semester units of online classes to 2 semester units? That would make no sense. I'll call them tommorow.

Also some students do their pre-reqs online. If I did my physics pre-req and all of a sudden they say its only worth one unit...im screwed for all dental admission.

I don't know...I can't find anything but that on their websites.

I'm stressed! Any more news on why it was converted to fewer hours. I am registered for an online Anatomy class in the fall as a prerequisite for one of the schools I'm applying to. I work full time, so this is really my only option. The course is 5 credit hours and I am supposed to have 4. What should I do?

I checked my transcript again. I guess they convert mine from quarter point to semester point. Semester=Quarter*2/3. So if you need 4 semester, you will have to take 6 hour quarter class.

Sorry for the early confusion.😳

Online classes are completely fine with the schools. In fact, most dental school have started hybrid courses with their cirriculum. Some schools do recommend few online courses.
