I just noticed that WVSOM requres CPR certification. I just found this online CPR course and want to know if it's okay to take it online.

No, you have to be certified as a Healthcare Provider through BLS/CPR training through the American Heart Association. It has a required lab and is not available online.

Relatively all schools offer this training during orientation week, unless your school informed you otherwise.

HAHAHA! Thats a good one. My EMT instructor told us we didn't really know CPR until we cracked a few sternums. Take a "real" class. They aren't hard to find. Call your local hospitals.

I can understand cracking a few ribs, but you might be a bit overzealous if you are cracking the sternum.

You've likely ripped through cardiac tissue and the patient is long gone if you've taken it that far.

I am a current CPR/First Aid instructor for the American Red Cross in LA, and I can tell you ARC has recently released an on-line CPR class in which students go through the lecture and book-learning stuff on-line, at whatever pace you want to go. BUT you still have to do a practical (approx. 3 hr class) to practice and show us your skills at a different time before getting certified. Take my advice and just go to a local ARC chapter and get through the regular class. It should save you money, and you can get it over with..

He!!, I did one of the online things that took 5 min for my renewal BLS for the hospital Im starting with in June and they had no problem with it. This gets me out of a couple of afternoons during orientation week.

I've never heard of allowing healthcare providers to work in a hospital without being certified as a "BLS healthcare provider" by the American Heart Association.

This may be uniqe to Texas and Oklahoma, but I seriously doubt it.

In Colorado almost all agencies/hospitals require AHA BLS provider. ARC is deemed for "the lay person" and not for medical providers. Anyone in Colorado that has found differently? (I've worked in three different agencies in three different areas of the state and all have the same policy.)

To be safe, you should perhaps check with the school you are most interested in. Or call the local hospital/ambulance service. They will give you some good information about what is required for potential physicians.
