I have been trying to find ways to improve my application when that time comes. I have probably 3 years to complete my pre-reqs and oomph up my application.
I previously posted about anyones thoughts on taking a part time job doing RN clinical research associate work. Anyone know if this holds any weight? It will be monitoring patients during clinical trials

My main question is my employer offers discounted tuition rates with Drexel online programs. I have been looking at Certificate in Clinical Trials or the Certificate in Epidemiology and Biostatistics. The Epi/Bio is 9 credits and is fully online. What do you all think?? Do you think it would just be a blip on my future application or hold any weight??
Should I just focus on my pre-reqs and consider this a further option or go for it now???

Thanks, hopeful pre-med student

I can't really give you good feeback on the RN clinical job, except to say that because you'd be getting paid, it would not be seen as fulfilling your clinical volunteer requirement. (Yes, they want you to go out and work for nothing, even if you have to support yourself. Welcome to the world of med school admissions.)

As for the courses, I think you should check out the following thread:http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=552026

This gives a complete list of what courses AMCAS includes in your BCMP (science GPA). Based on this list, I have a hunch that an epidemiology class would NOT count as BCMP, because public health--a closely related field--doesn't either. (It would still count for your overall GPA, but not the science portion.) But the only way to know for sure would be to call the AMCAS helpline and ask them.

In general, your #1 priority should be to ace your prereqs (BCMP courses) and overall GPA, and get the highest possible MCAT score. Don't worry about doing things to "dress up" your application, because they won't matter nearly as much as the grades and MCAT.
