I've already graduated. I'm interested in taking a few courses to supplement my knowledge and improve my academic record. Because I'll be working, it would be much more convenient for me to take online courses. I've read that online courses for prereqs are strongly not recommended, but what about for postbac courses?

Do you mean Post bac courses as in SMP? which is like taking first year medical school classes as a Masters degree student to prove you can handle med school.
OR
Post bac as in taking medical school pre reqs as a non degree seeking student at an undergrad college?
Either way I think they will be looked down (If AMCAS/individual schools accept them).
If you're just taking them to supplement your knowledge and not as pre reqs you're safe. LizzyM's knowledge would be helful here.

This question might be better asked in the non-traditional forum. You may get better insight/response there.

but the general consensus on the board is that do NOT do online courses.

I wanted to take biochemistry and human physiology. So not prereqs, but recommended courses. And I just wanted to take a few, not do a full program.

Plain and simple, it depends on what schools you're applying to... Some take them with no problem, some case by case, and some say NO if they're prereqs... However, (caveat) regardless of how the school feels about them, if they aren't prereqs, they can still improve your GPA, and they HAVE to be counted in your AMCAS. Johns Hopkins has online MS classes, so the tide is turning on this kind of thing... Personally, I am taking Biochem online, I will be taking parasitology, and pathology online, as well as virology, stats, and some other things... but again, none of them are prereqs... some courses have "reduced seat time" being that the course has no lecture, it's all online, and then you just go to campus for the lab... anyway, again, they can still help with your GPA, etc... so I say go for it... Oh, and AMCAS doesn't even have an option for saying it's an online class, so who's to know??? It doesn't say it on my transcript!
