Hello, I am starting my first semester of college soon. I was wondering if it would be frowned upon to take my Biology 1 Course online, but my Biology LAB would be on campus. I've been looking around, and it seems like taking the labs online is the only thing that raises eyebrows. Is this true?

I also had one more question. I plan on taking my general classes and lower division science classes at my CC and my upper division ones at the institution I transfer to. Is this a very good idea?

  1. you are not exactly non-trad, you are just starting college 🙂
  2. depends on your school. My school's online courses don't even show up as "online" on the transcript; you should ask your advisor/registrar.
  3. if they do show up "online", then there are schools that do NOT accept online pre-reqs currently, but who knows when you are ready to apply. Given the trend, I'd say you're OK
  4. do what you need to do regarding CC transfers in term of timing/finance. ideally, everything should be done at 4-year, but taking some intro classes at CC help you adjust into the college course rhythm.
    if you do this though,
    a) you have to ace the courses at CC; there is less room for forgiveness/error for lower grades
    b) you have to ace the upper level classes to show you can handle more rigorous, non-CC courses
