Hey everyone! This forum has helped me so much and I’m hoping someone can give me some insight. Thanks in advance!

I am a post-bacc student, and I am in the process of taking some pre-reqs and retaking a couple classes. I was planning on taking physics and re-taking organic chem this summer at my original institution. My school just announced that all summer classes will be held online.

I know normally optometry schools prefer that classes be taken in person only, but will they be making exceptions with everything going on? I am in a virus hotspot, and I am hearing that fall semester classes may end up being online also. Is anyone else taking pre-reqs online this spring or is planning to this summer/fall that are/may end up online? I am wondering how admissions will look at online classes this year.

Well, optometry programs around the country have been converted to online classes right now.

I don't think it will matter as long as labs are in person, but even that due to current circumstances may not matter for the upcoming cycle.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Everyone is in the same boat, so to speak. Most (but probably not all) higher education in the US has been converted to online format. Generally speaking, most admissions committees are reasonable in regards to factors that affect their entire applicant pool.

Just do your best and make the best out of the situation.

As an instructor, I was given 2 days to convert my 5 on-ground courses to online courses. I had to be flexible and adapt to the changing situation.

Health and safety is far more important than whether a transcript says "on-ground" or "online". For the institution I teach at, we do not differentiate whether a course is delivered "on-line" or "on-ground".
