Hi all,

I am wondering if schools accept pre-req classes, such as psychology, that are taken online at a 4 year university. And even if they do accept it, is it frowned upon? I don't see how they could even know whether a class was online based on your transcript. Any insight would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

I've taken numerous psych classes online, even abnormal. I'd tell you to check with each school. Some care, some don't.

I don't think most programs would mind one or so classes be taken online. But they will know. On the PTCAS app it asks u to designate the type of class it was beside each class entry (I.e lecture, lab, online, lecture/lab).

You have to be really careful about online classes. Always check each school for what their standing is for this.

Some of the schools I was researching would not allow you to take science classes online, some didn't allow any online prereqs at all, but most didn't care either way.

Definitely check with schools. I took two psychology courses online and my schools said it would be fine, but I was prepared to retake them if need be. Better to know upfront than realize you maybe didn't get a spot for not doing your research.

Some prerequisites, such as Exercise Physiology, are required only by certain schools (very few, in the case of Exercise Physiology - the only one I can think of at the top of my head is Boston University). I had a hard time finding a school nearby where I could this on-site, so my guess is that for certain courses, you might not have any choice but to take it online. I would think it's preferable to take PT prerequisites on-site, but maybe it won't matter so much to some schools!

I wouldn't take any 4-credit science class online. I don't see how you can do the lab component online. You can do Psychology, Statistics, and 3-credit classes online.

Also make sure that the school is accredited by a regional accreditation organization. If you are not sure, call and ask your potential PT schools if they would accepts credits from the school for the online course.
