i am very sick right now and will be in treatment for my illness for the next couple of years. i would like to take some science courses online to prepare for medical school.

i have heard some people say ONline courses are not a good idea (i would be taking them to fulfill the pre-med reqs). they send you the lab kit, etc and it sounds pretty valid.

any feedback here? i plan to call some schools to get their insights but before I do starting here seemed like a good idea.

thanks!

I do not think that it is a good idea IMHO...how will you get LOR's? also some medical schools will NOT accept online courses for the pre-reqs just fyi...call the schools and ask.

sunny...

so sorry to hear about your illness. I pray that you will not suffer too much from it or your treatment. I think that it would be all right if you have very few alternatives to take courses otherwise. At the same time, what makes you sure that you'll be able to complete the courses while you're sick online - I'd think you'd have the same issue as you would if you were to take the classes in person. If you are absolutely sure that you'll be able to finish everything, then I would do as efex suggested and call the schools you're interested in applying to and talk to them personally. If you explain your situation, they might be willing to work with you. People have done it before, but the real question is whether or not your illness will hinder you from performing in medical school later on, which as you know is quite demanding. Again, I wish you the best in your treatment and hope that you are able to overcome all obstacles that may stand in your path.

Best,
H&T
