So it seems that complicated and convoluted passages on the biochem section have been messing with people on their exams. I am thinking about dedicating some time every week to read an article, ideally on a biochem topic that's on the AAMC content list, and be able to have a discussion with people about it online. I am NOT trying to use this as content review, because I feel like someone out their is going to ask me that, but instead am doing it as practice to get over the fear of reading convoluted passages and to become more comfortable in reading them.

I think other people have tried doing something like this on here before, but for some reason it never works out. Does anyone know a website that holds weekly or even daily discussions of science articles? If anyone is interested I would like to do it on this forum as well.

I'm starting a online journal club/disscussion group on skype and have a few people interested. would you want to join?

The purpose is to generate discussion on current events in science/health/research. The plan is to meet once a week for an hour max. I will bring in an article or two to start off discussion and then people can discuss their opinion and input as well as share/discuss an research article/current events in science they found interesting/worth mentioning. I'm looking for about 10-15 people really interested in this.
I would really like to get this going asap. For those studying for mcat, this will allow you to think/see the applications of the basic sciences you've learned, develop critical thinking skills, understand the nuances of scientific literature etc... also could be beneficial for those applying this cycle and can talk about science/current events in interviews
I see a lot of potential in this, Message me if interested

Don't like the idea of skype. Do like the idea of a thread on SDN. I won't even be able to form a intelligent thought or criticism before reason the paper and doing a literature search. That will take 30 min.

I think what helps is if you do reading comprehension passages in general because that has a lot of crossover with CARS improvement.

It also depends on what your EC's are. If you have a research heavy job, then definitely reading more journals related to your field that's super dense will have a positive impact on both your research and your biochem comprehension.

I think it's going to be very difficult to find a lot of people who have the same research interests to read these papers. Most of the time, people read the papers that most relate to their work or that they're interested in. Otherwise, the papers get really dry and boring fast.
