Online science prerequisites

Hi everyone. I just graduated and got my bachelors in a non science major and I wasn’t accepted the pre health profession post bacc program I applied to. I haven’t done any of the prerequisites for dental school and now I feel like I’m stuck because idk what to do. I’m going to try to do open university at CSU fullerton but getting into the classes I need are close to zero. I was wondering if dental schools accept the prerequisites taken online? The school I’m looking at is accredited and it has labs. You have to purchase a lab kit and do everything at home and exams are proctored. Do you think that will be accepted?

Each school has a different policy on this, you have to call and ask or see if it's on the site

For the most part they'll take it but when it comes to the review some people will see it and go hmphh

I wouldn't worry about it except for confirming with the schools you're applying to there's no hard exclusion so you're not just wasting application money

As HeyEjo said, it varies from school to school.
University of Minnesota, for example, accepts the lecture portion of online classes, but does not accept online labs.
However, if the online course has the same course number as the in person course, and does not specify on your transcript, there isn't really a way to verify if the class was online or in person, so my guess would be that it would be pretty widely accepted.

Hey, as some folks already mentioned, taking online classes are probably just fine, but not the labs.

If you haven't gotten into a post-bac program yet, you should not give up. Ask them why they didn;t take you.

But, that said, there are still some post-bac programs out there where you can apply and get in.

Some schools clearly discourage CC courses; one might expect them to look askance at online prereqs.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I tried calling schools and only UCS answered and they said they accepted them but prefer them taken at a university. I’m going to try my best to take them at a 4 year through open university.

I understand that it is difficult to get science courses (especially labs) as the demand for them is very large. I have observed this problem several years ago. I think that there will be a growing trend for schools to accept online courseswork.

I would recommend that you directly contact the schools that you are interested in and inquire with them.

I think they really just care if you’re taking an online course that has a lab with it, cause you miss the real hands on portion. I took Biochem online cause most schools don’t require a lab and not a single school cared or even asked about it haha.
