Applied to 28 schools, my final tally so far is 19 rejections and one interview scheduled for February. This school accepts 25% of their interview group and I have relatively low GPA/MCAT. This late in the game, I'm probably not getting any more interviews. This is my one shot.

Is there anyone here who only got one interview for the whole cycle and managed to get accepted? Tell me about it! Did you do anything special for the interview?

If I were put in that position, I would request a special meeting with the dean and with a good well-prepared reason, tell him, this is your only chance to make it to the career of your dreams. tell him you'd do anything.....ANYTHING :naughty:

Well, IrishFootball reminds SDN often that he's only received one interview this entire cycle, and he was accepted a while ago. I'm sure he could give you good advice.

Me! Got one interview (at one of my top choices) recently and was accepted not long after. Didn't do anything out of the ordinary to prepare for the interview though. I checked out the interview feedback section and made a list of common questions. Then I made an outline of what I wanted to say and practiced saying it in my head or out loud to myself. Other than that I just tried to relax and be confident in the interview. No sense thinking about how it could be your one chance since it will just make you nervous.

I applied to seven schools (all in-state), and have received one interview followed by one acceptance.

The school I got accepted normally extends interviews to candidates that fall in-line with their mission statement, so I was told by most medical students there to just be myself. That's what I did, and it worked out marvelously. I also had a two mock interviews prior to the real thing in order to shake off any unnecessary anxiety, and I feel this was also very helpful. You're going to be somewhat nervous no matter what, so I would advise transforming that anxiety into eager excitement as much as possible.

EDIT: The SDN interview feedback section was also very informative and helpful during my preparation.

Research the **** out of the program, curriculum, your interviewers, etc. Practice what you see in the interview feedback WITH SOMEONE - mock interview style. Have lots of questions. Be well prepared. Have fun with it!

What exactly is your stat? Is this a MD school?

If your stat is really low - then I would prepare to address these concerns..

Yep, I had one interview (so far) and got accepted. My case might be different though because it was my state school and I interviewed on the first possible day.

Irish football is a superstar applicant with a 35 MCAT and near 4.0 GPA in his recent studies...

This applicant is out of Irish's league!

Umm..I am definitely NOT a superstar applicant, at least numbers-wise. I also have a 29 MCAT on my record so my average is 32. Also my gpa is < 3.6 sci and overall, so even with my upward trend, it still doesn't stand out as a "superstar" gpa. And if you need any more proof, see the number of interviews I've gotten (so far).

If a school has invited you to interview it means they are interested in you. If you can pull off a good interview there's no reason why you can't get accepted.

I'm pullin for you! I applied to 10 schools and got 1 interview (and those darn rejections just keep pouring in!!!) I'm in Texas so I find out in 2 weeks if I matched :xf: I'm going absolutely crazy....

Got 15 interviews u mad cause u mirin?

All jokes aside, just practice hard. Do you know any med school adcoms who can help you do interview prep?

I had 1 interview and 1 acceptance. I feel very lucky and happy 🙂 Keep up the good fight.

Two MD interviews out of 21 schools I applied to. Should hopefully find out about the first interview this coming week, and the second interview early February. Fingers crossed 🙂

Next year you can get in for sure. Just make sure you save some money to make those 20 applications over again!

Eww...!!

Also, I don't think you get to make special appointments with admins. Am I wrong?

Yeah, be nice, be yourself. Don't get mad, don't lie. If they like you, they like you. Just be calm and happy and that's the best way to go to any interview.
