Only 60 hours of shadowing

I'll only be able to manage about 60 hours of shadowing before I apply. I work full time as an engineer and it's been very hard building up the hours.

I know some schools such as NYU require 100 hours. Should I even bother applying to the schools that require 100? I called NYU and they didn't necessarily say it would disqualify me.

i think you will be fine. DEFF apply to nyu, there are deff students that get accepted there that dont have 100 shadowing hrs.

if they require 100 hours it would make no sense to apply there. but in my opinion 60 hours is a lot . I would just avoid the schools that require more than that .

Believe buffalo also requires 100 hours as well. Thought I should mention since you're applying to nyu also.

i applied with 60 hours of shadowing and i got a few interviews and one acceptance. although i did get rejected from a lot of schools, i don't think shadowing hours were the weak aspect of my application. good luck 👍

I agree ^^^ in fact my weak point the schools said was my reading comprehension score on my DAT

shadowing hours is one of those things that schools are unlikely to be strict on. some schools value them more than others, but as long as you have ~50 or so, a strong candidate isn't gonna get turned down over it. the more borderline you are the harder i'd strive for 100+.

I agree, try for 100, but you will be just fine with 60 granted everything else on your application is acceptable.

I think 60 is plenty, personally... you won't really learn anything exciting between hours 61 and 100.

If it's making you anxious, consider getting some hours shadowing in a clinic that is open evenings and weekends. In only a few evenings and some solid saturdays and you'll be able to document 100 hours. If you didn't get in, would you regret not having the hours?
