Okay,
so through a few posts I have posted the situation we are in. But here is a short recap. A few days ago we were told that he was going to have to go to Iraq. However then yesterday we found out that he got into the Physician assistant school. If he takes the PA slot, he does not have to go to Iraq, as the class starts next August. And they are suppose to leave in April for Iraq, but will let me stay back so he can clear and move, as we live in alaska right now and have to move to san antonio.
Anyhow with taking the PA slot and avoiding Iraq, it will add about 2 years onto his service obligation, so instaed of getting out of the army in 4 years it will be 6 years. Now, if your wife or husband was in that situaion, and was planning on applying to med school when they get out, what would you tell them to do, in regards to the whole Iraq thing. It makes me very nervous, as we have 2 friends who's husbands were killed over there. He has already been over there and was there for 4 months. But then he came back because we were on orders to move to alaska, and now taht we are here, they are going to be doing the next rotation over there!!! lol our luck of course

Being prior military myself and having been a part of the first Gulf War, and currently being married to a soldier I can totally relate. I absolutely avoid trying to dissuade my husband from something that relates to the military, meaning, that I can and will give input but never too much because later I do not want to feel that he truly wanted to do X and because of me he did Y. Okay, does he want to go to Iraq? if the answer is no, then obviously he needs to take the PA slot. If he wants to go to Iraq and then get out earlier and apply to medical school then there is your answer. Either way it is a hard choice. I am totally aware of the very difficult situation in Iraq right now but some soldiers thrive under that environment meaning you could not keep them back if they truly want to go there. Good luck.
