I have been a senior for 1.5 years now. I am a history major with a philosophy minor. I have all prerequisites taken (except) but...I am taking physics 1 and 2 this subsequent fall and spring. I am APPLYING to dental schools this summer though. How important is it that I graduate with a degree by spring/summer 2012?

It's not like I am actually going to get a job doing history. Will this hurt my chances of getting accepted if I still do not have a degree by the time I would matriculate into dental school? Currently, I have 109 hours...I need 37 more to get my history degree.

How has it taken you that long to get a history degree? Did you switch? I would call up schools. Most schools seem to like BS, especially if you will have spent 5.5 years at school.

No, no...I have been a senior for 1.5 years. I should have been more clear, I guess. I have been in school for 4.5 years.
And...my school is ******ed. They obligate history majors to have a minor. So...basically I have to take 120 hours for history degree, and I have been taking MANY science courses that have nothing to do with a history degree. That's why it's taking me longer than most people.

I'm confused. You are currently a 5th year senior? or you will be next year? You just need a degree when you matriculate, not when you apply.

If you've taken a ton of science classes, how many more do you need to take to get your B.S. in biology? You may want to consider a double major if you're close.

keep in mind, most (if not all) specialty programs require a BS/BA degree to matriculate.

If I wanted a degree in biology then this is what I'd have to do:

Fall '11
Genetics with lab...:scared: Even my advisor told me this class will likely make my science GPA go down. NOT good...as it's 3.11 right now (I have an upward trend though!)
Cell Bio with lab
Physics 1 with lab
Calculus 1 ....:scared:

Spring '12
Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy with lab....:scared:
Seminar
Histology with lab
Biochem 2 NO lab(I made an A in Biochem 1) 🙂
Physics 2 with lab

Summer '12
Spanish 1
Spanish 2

GRADUATE IN SUMMER '12 with a Biology Degree

Do you guys think this is possible for me to at least get a 3.75 or above my final three semesters?

Just get your degree, and get a high GPA. I'm not sure what your GPA is currently, but if it's low, the last thing you need to do is over-reach and try to get a biology degree and end up bombing.

Agreed...this is how I feel about it too. And plus, being a history major with a minor in philosophy will make me stand out in a positive way I'm sure. Thanks bro, you da man.
