Hi! I was wondering what are some OOS friendly dental schools?

From my experience: Indiana, Marquette, Midwestern-IL, tufts, louisville, temple

Check the ADEA guide to dental schools and look at the number of students each school accepted from your state last year. It tends not to change much from year to year. Keep in mind, the most “out of state friendly” schools are private schools. State schools accept grants which dictate that a high percentage of admission spots go to residents of the state.

From personal experience:

I was offered interviews at LECOM, Nova, Case Western, Roseman, and Detroit mercy.
All are private so instate/out of state doesn’t really matter.

in the end, I was accepted to LECOM, Nova and Case western as out of state (ended up also getting accepted to my state school so that’s where I’ll be going). But would definitely say apply to those especially if you have good stats like 20+ DAT and 3.5+ GPA

I really liked Case Western though. I definitely would have attended there if I hadn’t been accepted instate.

You’d be surprised by some less popular in state schools around the country that might seem like they have very few OOS spots but if you can see some statistics on how many OOS applications some of those school receive you might actually have a pretty good shot...remember the “OOS friendly” schools get a lot of OOS applications

yeah this was the case for me. I applied to a school not known for being OOS friendly as a reach school. I genuinely wanted to go but the likelihood that I would get in was slim to none, and somehow I’m going there this fall. On the stats file from 2017, scroll over and look at the percentage of OOS students interviewed and accepted. some are higher than you think

Same with me and UMKC. Out of 109 students, only like 9 aren't from Kansas/Missouri or an agreement state. I somehow managed to get accepted and received instate tuition and a crazy scholarship.

I think predents should be applying to more state schools, even if they arent OOS friendly. The amount of money you could possibly save is worth the chance. I easily saved a little over 200k by applying to umkc even though they are the opposite of OOS friendly

Can I ask which stats file from 2017 you're talking about?

Rutgers really doesn’t care if you are OOS. Generally, OOS people just don’t accept the offer. We have lots from NY, FL, and CA.

VCU generally has about 30% of their seats reserved for OOS, they have a lot of students from CA, NC, up north, etc.
