For those of you applying out of state, or hoping to get in out of state. How do you go about getting an apartment and the money required. I know you get loans, but my inexperienced knowledge on the subject is you get loans from school after filling out the financial aid packages, but what about apartments.

Please be informative
God bless

The exact same way for in-state schools... loans through FAFSA or whatever and then looking at apartments via the usual routes (online mostly)... What are you expecting would be different?
So you have to fill out the same application for loans of the school? Dosent the school regulate how much you get, how does that apply to a landlord? Again I dont know much

You can get however much the school puts out as estimate you would spend per year, which includes fairly generous living cost. It should be more than enough unless live it up.

What if I get an apartment in downtown Manhattan? (theoretical)

NYU's estimate is for apartment downtown Manhattan.
LoL that is awesome. So the school take into account the expensiveness of near by apartments then. So it is different for all schools then huh, although you still repay the debt however much.

They basically take account of the most reasonably expensive places students would want to live at and it's students' choice to do whatever they want with the leftover money: invest, borrow less, spend more on disposables, etc.

Living costs with a decent amount for leeway are included in the financial aid.

I don't think that there is a lot of leeway, atleast with my state school. I was alloted under 10k/year. With car insurance, health insurance, phone, credit card, transportation, and food alone, my yearly bills are already over 10k. Factor in rent and gas and electric and it is a few thousand dollars over the alloted amount for cost of living.

That's really tiny. All the schools I've looked at sat aside 20k or more. How does the school expect you to live under 10k/year? That's rough, man... Hope you got someone to help you out with money.

Nobody to help me out with the money per se, but I will continue to live with my mother for the duration of my dental school career to help cut down on my cost of living. Have to keep that debt low!
