It helped me greatly. It gives you an inside look of the school and what they are looking for. That info is extremely valuable for secondary essays, interview questions, and a general overall attitude towards how you would fit into the school. Not to mention it helps keep motivaton up

Thanks...I need it after the interview I had today....

I just changed it i was clicking stuff when i made a profile a couple of years back..but i was going to attend VCOM open house this weekend

I think open houses are very important in getting to know the feel of the school. I have only been able to go to the ones for the 2 med schools in my state, but I felt much more comfortable on interview days with then b/c I had already visited. Plus its nice to see what "kind" of students are common at the school. Every med school has a different vibe and feel. Its important to find one thats a good match for you.

Plus it allows the office staff to become familiar with your name. I dont know if it really helps in the process that much but its nice to know they recognize your name/face when you show up for interview day as opposed to never having met them in person before.

How should one dress for an open house if you will be meeting some fairly important people while there? Anyone have any experience with this issue?

Glad I stumbled upon this...Im attending the VCOM open house on Saturday too. The email from VCOM said "please dress casual...do not feel the need to dress up."

Maybe a nice pair of khakis and a button down...or would a tie help put out the vibe better..guess you could always take it off?

I went to the WVSOM and one guy wore a tie. Nobody else had one on, even the admissions people, dean, or professors. I wore khaki shorts and a button up. And I felt like the norm.

imo, it's better to be overdressed than under dressed. *shrugs*

VCOM open house: Again, I only saw one guy with a tie. Most guys work nice slacks or khakis and either a golf shirt or button-down shirt. Girls usually slacks and nice shirt. There were a few in jeans and one in shorts... probably a little too casual given the way everyone else was dressed but e-mail response from school said to dress casual and comfortable.
