I'm an intern in Ob/Gyn and considering switching my specialty, does anyone know how to find programs with open positions?

Thanks for the advice, I was thinking of contacting the anesthesiology elective coordinator from med school. I am just trying to think of the best way to nose around other programs without offending my current program director. I am sure that you know what I mean.

Before I put this completely to rest,
does anyone else have any thoughts about how to switch into anesthesia from another specialty? When, how would I let my program director know?

I told my program director (I was in emergency medicine) when I had decided that I definitely wanted to switch, but BEFORE I had made any serious inquiries into other programs. I thought he really should hear it from me first before it got back to him through others...but it probably depends -- do you think that your PD will be supportive??? I was really lucky in that I really liked and respected my PD, and he was so great about it, very helpful. I think that it is best if you can leave under good terms...which was why I finished the year (I decided last september). Best never to burn your bridges!!!

I think that my program director would be cool, but you never know. Other than sending out emails to programs are there any other suggestions to finding a spot? You decided in September, was that in your intern year? How did you know for sure that you wanted out of EM?
