Recently I stumbled across GNUhealth and OpenEMR, two open-source, free EMRs and I was wondering , given how much EMRs cost to run and maintain, why very few people, if any, seem to be looking into such options.
 
The VA actually had a great (at the time) open source EMR.

VistA - Wikipedia

There are derivatives of it around too.

The problem is with implementation and maintenance.
