  • Hey guys, I'm graduating this semester and was wondering if I can get any inputs from you guys. I have a GPA at around 3.3 and plan to take that MCAT somewhere in 2018 (unless someone can convince me that I am able to score really high by summer 2017). Great ECs and LORs, and lots of clinical background with community service. My only problem is that I have a red flag, which I prefer not to say. My "pre-med" advisor is really not useful in any case so I was hoping someone here can help me please.

  • Spring 2017 and Summer 2017 I am retaking 4 classes to repair my GPA, and I will try to get a job at a hospital. However, I am not sure what to do after summer 2017. I was thinking of taking upper level courses and preparing for the MCAT or do a one year masters program. If anyone have any advice or tips that would be awesome. Thanks!!

You're not going to take a year to study for the mcat. It's not beneficial. Unless you are wanting to retake classes before taking the mcat which I would say it doesn't matter unless you need more knowledge on the principles of the subject. Study 3 mos in the summer of 2017. Take your mcat then apply

I don't plan on applying the 2017 cycle because I don't think my application will look good by then, that why I'm hoping to retake a few classes and take some upper level classes.

What does your sgpa look like now. What are your ec
Not going to lie but I'm not sure at this point. I took about 13 science classes and I got probably 3 C's, 4 B's, 6 A's. I want to say around 3.3? I was going to calculate it later with my advisor.

EC's - 2 leader positions in a premed and community service club along with joining 3 other clubs for fun.

Should be able to find a calculator excel spreadsheet somewhere on sdn. Just remember DOs don't include match in the sgpa. If your sgpa is 3.3+ I would honestly just study and take the mcat. If you can do well then you can save a year and not have to retake classes.

it also depends on what your red flag is..

why won't you include the red flag? that might be a big factor so taking the mcat might no change much?

I guess I'll just say it since it's eating me alive and I want to know your guy's real opinion now.. it's an expunged felony for a prank in high school. Not the proudest moment of my my life but definitely gained some life lessons.

You might in dead in the water. You may not be able to get a medical license due to the felony regardless of attending medical school. I would contact a lawyer that deals in medical law.

I usually encourage people with DUIs and other types of misdemeanors to apply but this might throw a wrench into the works

I did research and you could still practice. It is all dependent on the severity of the crime, violent = rape, abuse would be a definitely no. Mine wasn't violent at all. But still I understand I'm in hot water.

What happened in high school stays in high school. I suspect that you had had an exemplary life since then, and so you should be fine, especially if your crime was one again property and not against persons.

Retake all Cs in science courses, shadow a DO and get LOR from same. And engage in service to others less fortunate than yourself.

Bless your soul!

Depends on the felony, I think.
