Hi all,

can you wear open-toed shoes to intervews? Or do they have to be closed toed heels? I have these chinese laundry shoed that have a thicker strap that goes across the foot, so they are not like thongs or anything. are these fine.

No, you should definitely get some more conservative shoes. Open-toed shoes do not look professional, and I guarantee you'd be the only person at your interview wearing them. Get some nice, boring heels. . .remember to avoid too high a heel or too pointy a toe; you'll be walking around a lot at your interviews.

no. sorry. but hey guess what you have a reason to go shopping 🙂 even for boring *sensible* shoes. you can find some cute(r) ones.

dude...your 75 year old interviewer won't even notice that you are wearing shoes.

might be true, but your 25 y.o. student interviewer will and will know that it's slightly unprofessional. i wouldn't gamble on it!

open-toe shoes aren't supposed to be worn in a medical setting. No docs at my hospital wear them.
they are also non-professional like everyone else said...

just get a pair of closed toe shoes. You'll use them again.

A big no! I saw a couple of interviewees with open toe shoes and even sandals, and in my honest opinion, they looked sloppy, unprofessional, and a little like they don't give a crap or plain clueless..😱

Mishaps of interview fashion might be the funniest thing to read about on SDN. Some of the stuff I can't even bring myself to believe actually happens.

For intentional fashion disasters, I'd have to go with the girl at my Northwestern interview who wore these extremely pointy-toed stilettos. They were slingbacks, and you could see how she'd plastered her heel in band-aids to ward off blisters. Evidently, this didn't work, because halfway through the interview day (as we embarked on the tour), she opened her enormous purse and produced a pair of flip-flops. She then crammed her interview shoes in the purse, and wore flip-flops with her suit for the rest of the day.

For unintentional fashion disasters, I'd have to go with the poor girl at my MCW interview whose luggage must have been lost with her suit in it, because I can't think how else she could have ended up like she did. She was wearing these gauzy white capri pants and a tank top. I'd never really considered checking my suit before, but after that I was adamant about not doing it!

big no!

Wow, I am definitely NOT checking my luggage now. Thanks for the tip.
