Make sure to take the COMTOMs class at that NAEMSP conference. I took it a few years back and it was definetly worthwhile. Once I make partnership with my group, I intend to get involved with the local law enforcement agency and do some tactical medicine stuff...Hopefully won't be a problem getting in the door given my previous law enforcement career...
I don't know of any electives in tactical medicine, but you can get a few leads from the instructors when you take the class. They were very helpful and seem to know a lot of people in the field that they can refer you to...
Good luck...
Sorry, hit the wrong button. Yes, these guys give the course at the NAEMSP conference every year. I think it costs a little extra, but it was a worthwhile class, and like I said, these guys are well connected, so they may be able to provide you with some contacts. Even if you don't do the course, I think they have a booth as well, so you can meet up with them...
I don't know how much, if anything it will add to your EMT-T knowledge base since I haven't taken both...
Since you are at Yale, I would talk to Dave Cone as well. He is an amazing resource
Good luck
Medical College of Georgia has a very active Operational Medicine program. Some of the attendings and residents train with local SWAT teams. In addition, they are active with the FBI sending attendings up to VA to provide medical care at the FBI training academy.
