Ophthalmology clinical fellowships for IMG's completing residency outside US??

Anyone familiar with this situation, please give some insight.
For an IMG, getting into Ophtho residency is nearly impossible. So if you finish Ophtho residency in
your home country, can you do a CLINICAL fellowship in the US?
what Ophtho hospitals have possibly accepted IMG's as clinical fellows?
If so then this may be the only way for me to get into US optho residency.

As far as i know you can't apply to s clinical fellowship trough the San Francisco match without doing residency first. The are programs available for international fellows that you can find on the medical schools website that will allow you to do a clinical fellowship if you meet the requirements.

Thanks for the reply! So do you happen to know any hospitals that would allow IMG's to do clinical fellowships? What requirements do they usually have BTW?

Have you taken USMLE Step 1,2,3? I do know someone who did a fellowship without residency but she had taken all 3 tests. She also had to return home because she couldn't practice in the US without doing residency.

Not yet, but that is what I'll be planning to do given I can get a slot on a clinical fellowship. Research fellowships aren't paid and there's little clinical exposure. I'm also planning to practice in my home
country but i really do want to receive some training in the US. So what hospital did your friend applied to?? BTW, does the USMLE scores have an expiry or something? say I would take steps 1 to 2 CK while I'm doing
a 3 yr ophtho residency here and once I finish I'll take step 2 CS and step 3. can my results still be valid?
