Ophthalmology Pre-residency Fellowships

Hi there! I hope i'm posting in the right forum, I apologise if not. I'm a FMG looking to gain insight into pre-residency fellowships in Ophthalmology. It's all a little foreign to me and I'm not sure what programs look for in applicants besides Step scores and LORs. I'd be most grateful for any insight/advice you might be able to give me that'll help make me a better candidate. My main goal is get more involved in research, get more publications and build this aspect of my portfolio either for ST training in a Commonwealth country or residency in the US. From what I understand pre-residency fellowships are a good way to achieve that. My thanks in advance for your help.

This isn't quite the correct forum. I suspect you will get the best information posting in the Ophthalmology forums further down on the main forum page. I'm sure if you send a mod a message, they can move this there.

I think Step scores and LOR's are honestly the main things they'll look at in addition to medical school record. Also, some pre-residency fellowships will want one to have finished an intern year before the fellowship.
