Is LIJ ophtho merging with north shore?
If this is true, when will it happen?

Thanks

I interviewed for Ophtho positions this year and was offered an interview at LIJ which I later declined. But i was told during my interview invitation that although I had applied to both LIJ and Northshore, that there was only one interview because of the merge. It led me to believe that the merge occurred this year and the class accepted this year is a combined class...can anyone else verify this?

LIJ and Northshore have merged into one program along with most departments in the hospital system. They will be fully merged in July. The progrma now takes 4 residents total. There are advantages and disadvantages from a resident point of view:
Positives- you now have the strong retina and peds exposure/faculty from Northshore combined with the strong cornea(cataracts)and plastics from LIJ.
Negatives- more hospital coverage when on call
