I am finishing up my sophomore year next week. I had a horrible transition to college because my high school did not prepare me well for college courses and studying. Anyways, first semester I had a 2.5 gpa. I have had a 3.5 every semester since then including the one i'm about to finish up, which puts me at about a 3.2 after sophomore year. I know this isn't good. I received a C in my first chemistry course here and I was wondering if you guys thought it would be a good idea for me to retake that course. I realize that if I get an A which I am almost positive I would that the two grades would be averaged for my gpa and both would stay on my transcript. What do you guys think I should do?

Move on and let's see if you indeed learned your lesson.

I don't think you need to retake the chem class you got a C in. You still have a couple years ahead of you. I would think that admissions would like to see an upward trend of your grades. My high school didn't prepare me well either which left me to struggle as well. Just keep focused and improve your grades and make sure to do all the volunteer/research/shadowing to supplement your grades. One C is not going to kill you. I had a couple of them in my science classes and managed to be accepted 😀

Achieving a 3.5 isn't anything stellar and doesn't show admissions committees that you're willing to bust your rear to prove your first semester was a fluke. A 3.5 would be fine had you not received a 2.5 in your first semester, but it's something you can come back from. Try to get a 3.8+ for 2-3 semesters and that should offset the 2.5. Then, if you want to go back to getting 3.5s you can do so.

Adcoms realize we are human and can account for errors, especially in your first semester of college. Just do well from here and you will be fine. Do well in the Chems on the DAT and they won't even bat an eye at that grade.

Don't retake chemistry. Just take biochemistry your junior year and do well in it. This will definitely offset the negative impression they might get from your freshman year first semester flop (which I also pulled).
