Any opinions on the first aid for clerkships series, especially vs. the blueprints series (which I've gathered is pretty popular except for surgery)?

Blueprint Surgery absolutely sucked. I read Lawrence for surgery, but wish I had studied more medicine (I had a lot of med q's on my surgery shelf).

I would recommend Blueprints Peds, and that's the only one of the whole series that I would recommend.

First Aid Psych and OB/Gyn rocked. I highly recommend them!

GM:
Thanks for the response. Could you tell me what specifically you liked about them (The first aid and the bluprints peds [better than the first aid?]) or didnn't in the case of the blueprints? Thanks.

geekmedic, what book do you think is best to read on surgery to prepare you for the medicine questions on the shelve?

First Aid for the Medicine clerkship is another great First Aid series book. I used it for my IM shelf exam and did well. The book is an easy read and it flows well. I highly recommend it. For surgery, I used Surgical Recall. I found that book good for my shelf exam.

I had first aid for psych, and it did help with the rotation, but the shelf exam was very unpredictable. I had biochem, neuro, int. med, and a family med ? on the test.

Thought it was a great book, until I took the shelf.
anyone else have this experiance with psych?
😕

I thought blueprints in OB-GYN was good. It has chapters on amenorria (secondary vs primary), hirsuitism, and other endocrine stuff. OB was OK, not great. I wish I had used it more when I was actually in my Ob Gyn clerkship. Now I am using it to study for step 2.

OB had a good section on breast ca which was also important for surgery shelf

for surg...recall and lawrence's essentials. then read the 90 page blueprints the night before the shelf if you have time for a quick review...

i thought blueprints peds was kind of tedious...all of the sections were long but they had good information. i didn't ever find anything i really liked for peds

i had fp at the end of the year and used my step 2 study guide for that...secrets for step 2 is another easy read for the night before...also for fp you've got to know the routine screening test schedules (DRE, Colonoscopy, mammogram etc)

I also have both first aid for clerkships and blueprints--can't decide which to use. . .
