awww why so little replies? i really would like to know how current ODs and students feel about this issue 🙂

i always believed that you do what you are trained to do, but i do not know much about the optician profession, are they trained to do refraction? i hope OD's are not hypocritical when the issues turns on them, opts are getting squeezed from OMDs and opticians, where and how do we draw a line so that everyone benefits?

i have been working as an optometric technician for the last two years for a husband/wife team. the only people who perform the refractions are the ODs and i think that's the way it should be. the ODs spend about 40 minutes examining each patient and really do an awesome job. i think the patients also feel that they are getting a quality exam and that's why we have many patients who have been with them for 20 years!! anyways, my point is that up till i started working there, i used to go to an eye doctor who had the optician do the refractions, etc, basically the whole eye exam and then the dr would come in, check it, and chat with you for like five minutes. i definitely was not impressed and therefore think refractions should be left up to the ODs.
