Does anyone here like using planners and do you find it generally helpful? If you don't use planners how do you manage and keep track of your tasks? I tend to do it in my head and it's worked for me so far. I am currently considering keeping a more strict schedule of daily tasks I need to complete for the MCAT though.

If you use planners do you prefer an online planner or an actual hard copy? I would appreciate recommendations for either!

I'm old school and still use a physical planner. Just a basic 1 yr planner w/ a space for notes each day

Every year I get a really nice planner, and I write everything down like class schedules and assignments, due dates, work schedule, volunteer schedule, research schedule, etc. I even color code it.
However about halfway through each quarter I get lazy and usually keep everything in my head. I don't NEED to write everything down because I usually never forget my schedules, but I at least try to stay organized.

I've been leaning more towards online versions so that I don't have to carry it everywhere

I cannot function without a planner. I always get a new (physical) planner before the start of the semester.

I have both a physical planner and use Google calendar during the school year. It gives me something to refer to, especially when adding non-routine items to my schedule. Also, the act of noting something twice often helps me remember it!

A Google calendar and the task feature work well for me. I cam check it as I walk to my next class and if I lose anything it syncs online. I can book times to do certain tasks or assignments and I have at least 3 different calendars so I can see what's school, personal or extra curricular at a glance.

Google calendar all the way. I love that I can have it on my computer/phone/tablet, and any changes I make sync to all three.

I write everything — exam dates, daily schedules, job/research tasks, etc. — on sticky notes and chronologically arrange them on my desk.

Google calendar is the best. I set it as my homepage, so every time I open my browser I have to look at it. And it syncs to my phone which is great.
My school also did a lot of appointments/meetings through google calendar, which was helpful

Thanks I'm going to check out google calendars. Is there a way to put multiple alerts for certain events/tasks?

I can't live without my planner. If I were you I would purchase one you can write in. I usually fill it in at the beginning of each week for each subject. When I finish each task I cross it out... Really really helps me stay organized

I always try to use a planner at the beginning of every semester and fail. Instead I just buy post-it notes, write out lists of things I have to do and stick them on my desk.

@lexswift Just use the default iCalendar app on Mac or Google Calendar. Both come with multi-color format marking and sync features to one another. Also the print outs from iCalendar are gorgeous. Also, I'm of the opinion that people don't "forget" to cover a section in Physics or Biochemistry because they didn't "plan" for it. I've found out it's more likely due to real life happening and the individual more than willing to put MCAT prep on the side because it's become an arduous exam for fresh doe-eyed pre-meds.

Yes, in Google calendars when you open the event up you can set multiple reminders for the same event. You can also set what style of notification you want. I use Google calendar and Outlook depending on my work/school balance, and like them both for different reasons.

Google calendar with Business Cal app on Android. It integrates the Tasks really well and makes them super useful (Google's official implementation is HORRID, like what the actual frak are they doing over there with Tasks?) I tend to keep my calendars for work and home stuff separate, as well as my task lists, so that I can view and also prioritize everything by category whenever I feel like it.

I use iCalendar and post-it notes. Keeping up with a planner when I constantly have my phone with me is an inconvenience. Also, I hate scratching out things in my planner... I can just throw away a post-it or delete it from my phone.

I would die without using a physicial calender!

Does anyone else use the app called "Things" as their planner? Now I'm wondering if I should switch to a physical planner after reading these comments.
