In the General Residency forum I asked a question on what is considered the preferred attire for female residency applicants during their interviews. Someone replied that it depends on what specialty you are going for - the conservative fields prefer skirts and the less conservative ones won't care if you wear a pantsuit. Is ophtho considered a "conservative" field? In your experiences on the interview trail what did most females choose to wear to the interview? Thanks

I've seen both, and the women look very appropriate. Wear what makes you feel comfortable and look good. 👍

BTW, if a program has a problem with women wearing pantsuits, then do you really want to be in a program like that?

The only problem I ever had was with a male applicant wearing a dark red shirt and black tie. Terrible.

The ladies on the interview trail should wear short skirts and hooker it up a bit. The PD's are mostly males and will respond to this kind of attire in a positive way.

just kidding

Seriously though, guys...interviews are not the time to wear khaki's and a sport coat....saw one unfortunate soul make this mistake. Buy a suit!
