So I am off track for details I have discussed before and previously had a graduation date late July causing me to miss the match. My school is suggesting an option for me to graduate December 2022 which happens sometimes or fully delay a year and graduate April 2023. I am leaning towards December but wonder if this graduation date would be a red flag to program directors? My goal is to enter match 2023. Thanks for any help.

How confident are you in your ability to match?

Some people who don't match opt to stay enrolled in school so there is no technical break in their training. This apparently makes it less of a hassle/red flag for applying next time around.

I don't think the gap from December on would be an issue the first time around during the match (someone can correct me if I'm wrong).

If it was me, I would stay enrolled. However, if you're confident in your ability to match, it could save you some tuition for sure.

What would you be doing professionally from December until June/July?

If you graduate in December 2022, when you enter the Match in 2023, will you have all the resources your school provides to it's on-track applicants or will you be applying "on your own" i.e. without the school's assistance?

Tuition would be exactly the same. Im doing a research track at my school. Just spacing out my 4th year requirements.

I believe graduating after September is what you need to be considered a U.S. senior for the match which is why I didn't want to keep my original late July graduation date.

This would be my first time entering the match. I am class of 2022 originally.

I am thinking about working to get some money saved up. This is the main reason I want to do December. I just wonder what people would say on interviews about my graduation date.

I would have all the resources available to me.

Do you have any loans?

If you aren't in residency or school, they could go into repayment. I don't know the timeframe or if you could go back to defer/forbear when you start residency. Something to look into.
